Get Your Camera Ready & Pick Out the Perfect Clothes – The Sunflowers of Sanborn have their PERMIT!!!!
Whew! This is a HUGE relief to us and many others around Western New York!
The Sanborn Sunflower Fields have been given the green light for another amazing season!
Chad and Louise Brachmann started the field a few years ago on a whim, “It started out as just something colorful instead of a bare field with weeds growing in it, so my wife Louise decided she wanted to plant sunflowers so we did.”
What happened next was quite an incredible surprise! Folks flocked to the fields, thousands of people – taking pictures and taking time to stop and smell the flowers.
It has grown each year but hit a snag last year after permit issues came to light. The popular Sanborn attraction was shut down last year after a cease-and-desist letter was sent to the operators because town officials said the business, which operates in a residentially zoned area, had gone beyond simply selling and displaying sunflowers. Since then, the town has passed amendments to the zoning ordinance that will allow a business in any zoned area to apply for special event permits.
Now though – they are set. Hundreds of thousands of sunflowers will soon bloom! And they have some big plans for 2019!
They would like to host a farmers market every Wednesday and Friday in July to September from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. They’re also hoping to have Sunflower wood carving education classes that would be held on Saturdays and Sundays as well as a multitude of events planned for August!
The field is on the corner of Baer Road and Saunders Settlement Road in Sanborn. Chad and Louise just love and appreciate the joy their field brings to so many.
So, get those favorite outfits ready and charge up your camera because six acres of bright, bold, beautiful sunflowers will be standing tall just weeks from now!
