Alex Pileggi is a 35-year old single mom fighting cancer. Her story is detailed below – along with a message for all of us. As Alex fights, she also has a critical reminder for women – Do your yearly checkup. It could save your life.
“On behalf of Alex, I’m posting to share a little bit her story. As many of you may have read today Alex has been diagnosed with cancer. Due to this diagnosis, a surgery and radiation will be required at minimum. Alex is already out of work and will be for the next 10 weeks give or take. I’d like to ask that you consider donating to help her during this time if possible. And regardless if you are able to help financially or not, I ask that you send good thoughts, love, and prayers her way! We all know without a doubt what a strong and amazing woman Alex is. She is an amazing mother, the best friend, a loving girlfriend and let’s face it, she’s been there for each of us! Our support during this time is so important!
Below is the content from her post today, with details of what’s going on and the plan as of today. Please take the time to read if you haven’t already.
“Everyone has been asking. I didn’t have any definitive answers until today.
I’ll try to make a long story short, but it’s still long. Deal with it.
Three years ago I went for a routine check up. I was nervous when my mom died that maybe it was something passed down so I got myself checked just because. They noticed something in my neck, which turned out to be a “twisted carotid” which heals itself.
Fast forward to last month, what I thought was a lump on my breast turned into further testing that my new primary doctor suggested. She sent me for a mammogram and saw the carotid note in my chart and said let’s check that again for the hell of it. (Side note. Lump was in fact just my bones. Don’t judge me)
Turns out, they found multiple nodules in my thyroid that were concerning. After the horrible, painful biopsy, I got a call from the doctor to come in for results. (Never a good sign, right)
Well, the day BEFORE, my OB calls that there was also severe abnormal cells and nodules in my cervix, which results in a surgical biopsy to be tested for cancer as well.
The day I go to the thyroid doctor, I was told there is, in fact, cancer through nodules in my thyroid. I will be getting a complete thyroidectomy March 15th, followed by radiation.
The OB told me today, she wants that done first. But she has some pull at Roswell and we will see if we can get BOTH surgeries done at the same time so we can test both cancers to see if they are the same, meaning it was spread. But. Can be controlled.
I’m not scared. I’m bored not working. I’m not going anywhere. I am here to torture the world for a long time. Just do your yearly checkups. Especially us older kids. This is going to be a long long road, and I’m praying it stops at radiation and doesn’t have to go as far as chemo, but I’m a boss bitch and I got this handled!!
Thank you to each and everyone of my family and friends that has reached out. I know I haven’t responded to everyone but I appreciate the prayers! We got this! ❤️ “
Please help this young mom if you can by donating to her gofundme here and sharing her story so others can as well. We are praying for you, Alex.
