Hall of Fame Quarterback, Jim Kelly continues to improve days after he had major surgery to remove the cancer from his jaw and reconstruct his upper jaw.
Doctor’s had to reconstruct Kelly’s entire upper jaw using his femur.
His daughter, Erin, posted on Instagram that Kelly stood and took his first steps since having the surgery. The community has been following Kelly’s updates since heading into surgery last Wednesday. A huge get-well sign continues to hang at Taste Coffee Shop in East Aurora, where hundreds have stopped in to sign it, leaving well wishes, warm memories, and thoughts and prayers to the former Bills Quarterback.
Kelly has been using a dry erase board to communicate with his family.
Kelly took five steps before being told not to over-do it. This is just four days after a grueling 12-hour surgery.

Kelly’s wife, Jill, said in an Instagram post Wednesday that her husband was still facing “a very significant time of recovery.”
Kelly’s diagnosis came just a few weeks after Kelly celebrated his 58th birthday. Kelly had been cancer-free since September 2014. A biopsy at the end of February showed the cancer had returned.
