It’s mid-October, and hopefully by now you’ve seen all the pink around town. It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Anderson’s Frozen Custard is raising funds and awareness for this great cause.
Here’s a startling but true statistic, 1 in 8 women will experience breast cancer at some point in their lives. At Anderson’s the disease has impacted two ladies close to their hearts. One of Anderson’s store shift leaders is a stage 4 breast cancer survivor. Also, Lisa Sorrentino is in charge of Marketing and Special Events Training at the company and is a recent breast cancer survivor. Lisa said she couldn’t have gone through breast cancer without the support of everyone at Anderson’s. “My company and teammates have been a tremendous gift to me all along the way with support, cheer and laughter. I just finished treatments and surgeries in June so now I am ready to give back!”
With those ladies and all of those who have fought or who are currently fighting breast cancer, the Western New York based chain is hosting its “Shake It Up For Breast Cancer” event through this weekend. Anderson’s is featuring a “Think Pink Oreo Shake” – very appropriate don’t you think? Get this – it’s a cinnamon flavored shake with Oreos mixed throughout, a touch of whipped cream and the breast cancer pink ribbon to top it off too! Yum! With every purchase of this or any regular or large-sized milkshake, Anderson’s will be donating $1 to a couple of great causes – For Our Daughters and Hope Chest.
For Our Daughters’ mission in a nutshell is to make sure that all young women are informed about their health and their family history. The non-profit was started five years ago, after the founder, Mercedes Wilson, was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer at the young age of 28. That’s when Mercedes learned just how much she didn’t know about her roots. She started For Our Daughters and the charity’s goal is to help young women ages 11-19 live longer, healthier lives. Mercedes says, “We believe that every young woman should know her family history and be proactive in speaking up when something isn’t quite right with her body.” For Our Daughters visits middle and high schools in Western New York to show young women how to open up dialogue with the loved ones in their lives. “We talk about not only the importance of learning one’s own family history, but also to become comfortable talking about their health.”
Hope Chest is an organization that not only provides a positive support group for breast cancer survivors, but also gets those survivors moving! They offer a unique paddling program and a health and fitness program for breast cancer survivors of all ages and fitness levels. The goal is to inspire breast cancer patients and survivors, regardless of where they are in their treatment or recovery, to lead active and fulfilling lives through physical fitness!
Support Anderson’s Frozen Custard and their mission to raise money for For Our Daughters and Hope Chest – two very worthwhile charities. The “Shake It Up For Breast Cancer” event continues at all 7 Anderson’s locations until Sunday, October 15.
