Yes, we love to share good news, positive stories and wonderful things about WNY and beyond – but we also have a responsibility of sharing important information the public needs to know about and this is certainly one of those times. A few parents reached out to us and asked us to share this information.
Here is information from Grand Island News – on two stranger incidents that happened near a Grand Island Elementary School earlier this week. Please be cautious and talk with your children about stranger danger. This is SCARY!
From GICSD:
Dear Grand Island Families: We received a report this evening that a male adult was driving in a vehicle near Kaegebein Elementary School and this person made an attempt to communicate with a female elementary student, while that child was walking home from school. Additionally it is being reported that the stranger told the child to get in the vehicle. In this incident the student knew enough to avoid this situation and let her parents know immediately. The child’s parents notified the NYS police and they are leading the investigation. We will continue to work with the Police and our School Resource Officers regarding this investigation. Please continue reinforcing the concept of “stranger danger” with your children. Thank you for taking the time to review this notice. Sincerely, Brian Graham, Ed.D.
Update: Here is an update on the “Stranger Danger” message I sent out on January 14. As Mrs. Haggerty and our School Resource Officer continue to investigate that situation, we learned today, from another child at Kaegebein, that a similar incident occurred on the same day and approximately at the same time. The police have increased their presence in the neighborhood and will continue to investigate. If you have any information, please call Officer Paternostro at 716-261-8547 or Officer Scarpena at 716-261-8563. Sincerely, Brian Graham, Ed.D.
