He was known as simply “Aldo” on the streets of Niagara Falls. Fortunaldo “Aldo” Evangelista was an icon, serving up some of the finest Italian food around in his popular eatery, LaHacienda Pizza for decades.

The family-run Italian restaurant was established in 1949 and is a local fixture in the Falls for pizza and drinks.

About Me

Welcome to Totally Buffalo! A local lifestyle website.

My name is Mary Friona-Celani and I am the creator of this site! I’m a wife, a mom, a grandma, a Buffalo booster, an entrepreneur and a small business owner. I’m so glad you stopped by.  After 20 years in the buffalo media, I went out on my own to tell stories about the people, places, events and all-around fabulousness of this wonderful place we call home. Buffalo is different and so is this site. We are here to share stories, encourage kindness, and help make this a better place to live.

We’ll help those in need when we can through our charity arm, Totally Buffalo Cares.

We help local small businesses, artisans and vendors though our events and our Totally Buffalo Stores.

We’ll do all of this with a little help from friends in our community.

Aldo ,was part of my Pine Avenue family! His father-in-law started the pizzaria across from Memorial Hospital. Hard working, good people!

So sorry to hear of Aldo’s passing. He was a bigger-than-life character! He was so kind to me when my mom was sick and subsequently passed. He came to her wake, even though he didn’t know her. What a comfort. Memory Eternal Aldo!

I was a regular for years, buying the BEST PIZZA ON EARTH. Almost every year around the holidays he would say, “This one, On the house!”, in his great accent. It ALWAYS surprised me. Such a warm, kind, generous man. You made so many people happy. I’ll miss you Aldo.

Grew up in St. Catharines and now live in Aurora Ontario. Aldo was the best. Always would drop by the table and say hello. We have been dining there for over 40 years. He will be missed by all. Our condolences to his family Ward Seymour

Live in St Catharines have been coming for the best Pizza since 1962. Aldo knew us as soon as we walked in the door with WELCOME BACK sure will miss him. I hope Lillian and staff will continue on with his work. It will be impossible for any one person to replace Aldo.

We will miss you Aldo! Three generations of my family have been to Hacienda. Our families are from Welland, Ontario and Waterloo, Ontario. Always worth the drive to Hacienda. I remember going there as a kid and I am glad that I got to take my own kids there to experience it with their grandparents. Such fun, happy and delicious memories. Aldo was a fun loving person who made our visits enjoyable – and the food (pizza and wings was our favourite) is spectacular.
