Family and friends have put out a call to action – they’re looking for support for Cheektowaga mom, Amy Mcbride-Howlett and her family of six (four children ages 4-13) by donating your money and prayers.

Amy was diagnosed with stage 3 Glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer in 2013 when she was 34-years-old.   Family Friend, Katie Edwards says the family recently learned the news that it has returned and is terminal.  “The doctors have given Amy very little time left and so we are reaching out to friends to raise money and support, to help ease the financial burden on her family.”

It’s been a long road for Amy and the Howlett family. In 2013, prior to her diagnosis, Amy spent 10 weeks in the hospital after experiencing premature labor. The babies, Calvin and Harper were born 12 weeks premature, and spent 10 weeks in the NICU.

Finally, after 20 weeks of hospitalizations, the family of six, including her two older boys Noah and Carson, were re-united at their home.

Amy’s was experiencing dizzy spells and other symptoms. She was given misdiagnosis after misdiagnosis and treatments for conditions she didn’t have.

Sadly, a biopsy confirmed she had brain cancer.  In 2013-2014 Amy underwent months of chemotherapy, radiation and then eventually surgery to remove her original brain tumor and miraculously has been cancer free for the past 4 years.

Katie says her friend had been living life, enjoying her children and family, “Amy remained paralyzed on her left side from the original tumor but was otherwise able to lead a normal, happy life and mother her children as they have grown.  Sadly, about 9 months ago she started experiencing dizziness and a decline in speech and mobility that has continued to worsen and included a hospital stay in December for pneumonia.”

Amy has been unable to speak or walk since August and the burden of care for herself and her four children has been on her family and husband Sean.

A Gofundme has been set up to help the family pay for services, medical costs and other unexpected costs.

My name is Mary Friona-Celani and I am the creator of this site! I’m a wife, a mom, a grandma, a Buffalo booster, an entrepreneur and a small business owner. I’m so glad you stopped by.  After 20 years in the buffalo media, I went out on my own to tell stories about the people, places, events and all-around fabulousness of this wonderful place we call home. Buffalo is different and so is this site. We are here to share stories, encourage kindness, and help make this a better place to live.

We’ll help those in need when we can through our charity arm, Totally Buffalo Cares.

We help local small businesses, artisans and vendors though our events and our Totally Buffalo Stores.

We’ll do all of this with a little help from friends in our community.
