Ten-year-old Gavin Burns is in recovery after a major surgery that lasted several hours on Friday morning. The boy, who this community has rallied around, has a very long road ahead of him. His family will be by his side every step of the way.
Gavin was severely injured last Friday evening in a lawn mower accident. He was taken by Mercy Flight to Oishei Children’s Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to save his and leg. He’s had several surgeries since.
He’s been in stable condition – surrounded by his family and close friends. A family friend tells me the little boy is amazing and has been in good spirits.
Gavin’s aunt, Margo Tallarico told me Thursday afternoon, “As a family we have decided the road to take in the best interest of Gavin and the quality of life he deserves.” The family asks for continued prayers and their privacy.
Gavin is surrounded by love – and by the hundreds of cards sent to him by friends, classmates, and strangers. Hundreds of cards offering wishes of recovery, hope, healing, and prayers.
The family saw something incredible Friday and captured the moment in these photographs, which the family has asked me to share. If you look closely you can see a cross. Right there. In Gavin’s bed. Is that incredible or what? Margo, who is very close to her nephew, said this, “We have all witnessed a miracle. This was our sign.”
His family, as you can only imagine, is devastated by the tragedy. They are very appreciative of all the thoughts and prayers coming to their sweet Gavin from so many in our amazing community.
Gavin and his family are well known and beloved in Niagara County.
This picture is heartbreaking but also such a heartwarming moment of support and love.
His family is truly amazed at the outpouring of love and support for this special little boy.
