Family, friends and community members will celebrate the homecoming of 10-year-old Gavin Burns on Sunday. It’s been a heartbreaking, challenging, and devastating two weeks for Gavin and his entire family.
Gavin was injured in a lawn mower accident at his Lewiston home on June 1st. He was taken by Mercy Flight to Oishei Children’s Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. Doctors were able to save Gavin’s leg, unfortunately they were not able to save his foot, which had to be amputated just above his ankle. The little boy has had six major surgeries over the past two weeks and is now cleared to continue his recovery at home. He has a long road ahead and will do so with his family by his side. Gavin is in good spirits.
His family is extremely grateful to the doctors, nurses and staff at Oishei Children’s Hospital, the amazing Mercy Flight crew and the entire community for showing such wonderful support during this difficult time.
Folks in community, volunteer firefighters from several departments, police officers from several communities, and others will line Creek Road as Gavin and his family come home. As you can imagine, it has been a grueling and heartbreaking time for the family and they are relieved to finally be going home.
The Burns family encourages anyone who would like to support Gavin to line the road and welcome him home. All are welcome.
WHEN: June 17, 2018 at approximately 4 p.m at 4641 Creek Road, Lewiston
WHAT:  Gavin and his family will arrive home at approximately 4 p.m. They will have a police escort from the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department once they enter Niagara County.
Family and friends have already started getting Gavin’s home ready for him. They’ve built this incredible ramp to make it easier for him.
Gavin is an incredible little boy who loves Minecraft, putting together models and playing with his little brothers.
This little boy has been through a great deal, but as children often do, he is going through this journey with grace and courage. Kids have a way of not only getting through incredibly challenging and difficult times, but they manage to inspire all of us along the way. That is certainly the case here.
This entire community is behind you, Gavin!!!!!!!!
