A heartbreaking update to a story of love and faith.

Just days after dozens of Western New Yorkers donned masks and gathered outside of Hospice Buffalo to support 11-year-old DaJuan “Soleil” Brown – the devastating news of his passing.

The Buffalo boy was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) last May, just five days after his eleventh birthday. The tumor was wrapped around his brain stem making it inoperable. After his diagnosis, Soleil has underwent extensive rounds of radiation and chemotherapy. Soleil has been in hospice care since fall 2019.

On Saturday, the community came out in faith to pray for miraculous healing for Soleil. Friends and family brought signs of encouragement. Some stood outside interacting with Soleil through the window of the facility’s sunroom where he rested in a bed. Others remained in their cars, sharing prayer over a Zoom meeting.

While battling his illness, Soleil was still determined to attend school and was a student at International School 45 in Buffalo until February.

A GoFundMe account created to help Soleil’s family with medical expenses has raised more than $14-thousand! Please continue to help this family if you are able.

We are sending love and prayers to Soleil’s family during this unimaginable time.

About Me

Welcome to Totally Buffalo! A local lifestyle website.

My name is Mary Friona-Celani and I am the creator of this site! I’m a wife, a mom, a grandma, a Buffalo booster, an entrepreneur and a small business owner. I’m so glad you stopped by.  After 20 years in the buffalo media, I went out on my own to tell stories about the people, places, events and all-around fabulousness of this wonderful place we call home. Buffalo is different and so is this site. We are here to share stories, encourage kindness, and help make this a better place to live.

We’ll help those in need when we can through our charity arm, Totally Buffalo Cares.

We help local small businesses, artisans and vendors though our events and our Totally Buffalo Stores.

We’ll do all of this with a little help from friends in our community.
