Buffalo Police Commissioner, Daniel Derenda has retired, effective immediately.

Mayor Byron Brown has made the official announcement.

“Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda has faithfully and dutifully served the City of Buffalo for more than thirty years,” said Mayor Brown. “Public safety has been a top priority for my administration, and the work of Commissioner Derenda and the Buffalo Police Department has yielded a 40% drop in crime, with over 15,500 illegal guns removed from our streets since 2006. During his tenure the city has achieved the lowest annual crime rate in our history, improved community-police relations and modernized our police force. I am thankful to Commissioner Derenda for his service to our entire community and his dedication to the city’s public safety.”

Commissioner Derenda began his career as an Uniformed Police Officer before earning the designations of Detective, Detective Sergeant, and Deputy Commissioner of Operations. He was appointed Commissioner of the Buffalo Police Department by Mayor Brown in July of 2010.

Commissioner Derenda retired effective midnight, January 17, 2018, to pursue an opportunity in the private sector.

Mayor Brown has appointed First Deputy Police Commissioner Byron C. Lockwood as Police Commissioner.

About Me

Welcome to Totally Buffalo! A local lifestyle website.

My name is Mary Friona-Celani and I am the creator of this site! I’m a wife, a mom, a grandma, a Buffalo booster, an entrepreneur and a small business owner. I’m so glad you stopped by.  After 20 years in the buffalo media, I went out on my own to tell stories about the people, places, events and all-around fabulousness of this wonderful place we call home. Buffalo is different and so is this site. We are here to share stories, encourage kindness, and help make this a better place to live.

We’ll help those in need when we can through our charity arm, Totally Buffalo Cares.

We help local small businesses, artisans and vendors though our events and our Totally Buffalo Stores.

We’ll do all of this with a little help from friends in our community.
