Samantha Bassett is a small business owner who works hard day in and day out. Her salon, Super Clips is located in Niagara Falls at the intersection of Niagara Falls Boulevard and Military Road. Unfortunately, the area is a magnet for homeless folks – including Shawn. Samantha sees him just about every day.
Yesterday, she’d had enough of seeing this man – dirty, messy and clearly down on his luck, “I just figured, you know, I think we should do something nice for him. I’ve seen him so many times, but I saw, I noticed, that his shoes had holes. His feet were literally hanging out. So, I figured we’d clean him up. We went and bought him socks, underwear, shirts, shorts and shoes. I think it made him feel human again”
This morning, Shawn stopped by to thank Samantha for her kindness, “He’s very thankful. He said thank you for everything you bought.” That’s when Samantha sat him down and gave him a haircut.
It may seem like a small gesture, but it made a big impact on Shawn and on Samantha, “”It made me feel good because, there’s people degrading him and being nasty. This is about bringing awareness to the homeless. I know I can’t help every single one of them, but if I can help one, it makes me feel better.”
This isn’t something new for the stylist. Super Clips has given out 7,000 free hair cut cards to all of the schools in Niagara Falls. I mean, how amazing is that, “Well, you know, a lot of families just don’t have the money. It’s only $10 for a kids cut, but you know, if you have 3, 4 or 5 kids, it adds up so we thought we would help out.”
A small business owner with a big heart. It’s a reminder to all of us that kindness really matters, that we can change lives, improve our communities and make a difference, if we just care.
Thank you to Samantha and the folks at Super Clips!!!!
