Woman raves about restaurant’s amazing kindness to her son – who has autism & the restaurant responds.

Sometimes, these days, it’s easy to see all of the bitterness, hatred, and divisiveness in the world.

It’s easy to forget, if only for a moment, that there is so much good in the world. More good in fact. More good than bad. And I love the stories that prove it. It’s one of the reasons why I started Totally Buffalo.

That being said – here’s a good one.

Sandra Block wants to let everyone know that the folks at Sun Restaurant are extremely kind and considerate. Like, not just their food is tasty and service is good kind of thing. Not just a nice, clean restaurant kind of thing. No. It’s much more than that.

She posted about a recent experience at the restaurant’s Williamsville location and is happy that we are sharing the story.

“Little story. So my husband tells my son (who has autism) to run in and get a take-out menu from Sun Restaurant. They even practice it in the car beforehand. Then my son goes in and my husband is waiting…and waiting…and waiting…so finally decides to see what’s going on. What’s going on is that my son is at a table, eating. Apparently, he told the hostess “I’m hungry.” So she sat him down and asked what he wanted to eat, and he answered: “beef.” She told her cooks, “hurry, this boy is very hungry,” and made him a beef curry with rice. She said that he was so sweet she was planning on letting him eat for free.

I ❤️❤️❤️Sun Restaurant in Williamsville. If you end up there, thank them again, from me. For their kindness, and for treating my son like family.”

Amazing, right? Sandra’s son ate up that beef curry with rice. The picture is so precious and really does tell quite a story.

The folks at Sun have quite a story, too.  Kevin Lin, a Burmese businessman and Master Sushi Chef, and his wife, Stephanie, came to the United States in July of 1996 after studying authentic Asian cuisine and food trade in Tokyo, Japan.

The Lins opened Sun Food Market (1989 Niagara Street, Buffalo) which has turned into a market and bistro. They’ve also now opened their second Sun Restaurant in Williamsville. It’s where Sandra’s son, Owen ate that beef curry with rice.

I reached out to the owners to ask about the picture, about the gesture. Owner, Kevin Lin told me that Aye, his partner and manager at Sun Cuisines in Williamsville is the person who helped Owen. He told me it is just the way they do things, “Mary, In our Burmese culture, we are taught to treat every human being with Metta (loving kindness). Metta is a boundless love that gives not take, answer the cries but not demand, loves not dependent on conditions, and not wishing for anything in return. We are so grateful that we are generously rewarded with so many love and kind words for this!”

Boy, we can all take something away from that.

Kindness, pass it on. 🙂

Sun Restaurant is located at 1989 Niagara Street, Buffalo & 5759 Main St, Williamsville

I can’t wait for our next date night – I know where we’re going.

About Me

Welcome to Totally Buffalo! A local lifestyle website.

My name is Mary Friona-Celani and I am the creator of this site! I’m a wife, a mom, a grandma, a Buffalo booster, an entrepreneur and a small business owner. I’m so glad you stopped by.  After 20 years in the buffalo media, I went out on my own to tell stories about the people, places, events and all-around fabulousness of this wonderful place we call home. Buffalo is different and so is this site. We are here to share stories, encourage kindness, and help make this a better place to live.

We’ll help those in need when we can through our charity arm, Totally Buffalo Cares.

We help local small businesses, artisans and vendors though our events and our Totally Buffalo Stores.

We’ll do all of this with a little help from friends in our community.
