Oh, we love this story!
We all saw the pictures and video of BPD K-9 Officer Shield walking around holding that Kong in his mouth. He loves that toy and takes it everywhere. Maybe it’s a bit of a security blanket for the pooch who lost his partner, Officer Craig Lehner in that tragic diving accident.
When I spent some time with Shield – he had that Kong in his mouth just about the entire time!
Well, get this.
The wife one of one of the Buffalo Police Department’s Radio Dispatchers was watching the funeral ceremony of Officer Lehner and noticed the same thing we all did – just how much Shield enjoyed chewing on his Kong toy. She took it a step further and actually wrote to the Kong Company of Golden Colorado to tell them all about it.
Turns out a company representative watched a segment of the dog at the funeral on the Internet.
Afterwards, the company donated to the K-9 Unit a box of assorted Kong toys and treats.
Way to go, Kong Company!
