Frontier Middle  School took part in Bald for Bucks. Yep, middle schoolers got together and decided they wanted to help raise money for research and patient programs at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Middle schoolers. How amazing is that?

The kids got busy raising money.

Kids like Sara Ras – who has always loved her beautiful, long, blonde hair. She gets comments on her hair wherever she goes.

Recently though, she decided that donating her hair to help make a wig for a cancer patient was more important than her hair.”I have a lot of hair, but some kids don’t have any,” Sara said, “I know there are kids that need my hair more than I do.”

Sara set a goal of $500. She upped her goal to $600 and busted that number, too! The top ten fundraisers were invited to Kiss 98.5 to be on the radio with DJ Anthony. Sara was thrilled to be on the radio, but more excited about the money she raised. She did that by using social media where donors could donate online. She also received cash from family and event complete strangers. “I’d like to thank my friends, family, and even strangers who showed their support for Roswell,” Sara said.

Then came the big day. In front of a crowd of excited kids – Sara and her classmates cut their hair, or shaved their head. Teachers took part, too.

Sara ended up donating about 9 or 10 inches of her beautiful blonde hair. A beautiful gesture.

Sara’s mom, Elizabeth said she was a bit concerned after the haircut, when her daughter began to cry, “I asked her why she was crying and if she regretted it. She said no. I’m crying because I feel so good for helping others.”

A life lesson learned in middle school.

It’s funny, isn’t it … we spend so much time teaching our children everything they need to know – and there are times when they do a great job of teaching us what’s most important.

Great job, Sara and all of the incredible, caring kids, teachers and staff at Frontier Middle School. Their efforts paid off big time, raising a whopping $18,000 for Bald for Bucks!

About Me

Welcome to Totally Buffalo! A local lifestyle website.

My name is Mary Friona-Celani and I am the creator of this site! I’m a wife, a mom, a grandma, a Buffalo booster, an entrepreneur and a small business owner. I’m so glad you stopped by.  After 20 years in the buffalo media, I went out on my own to tell stories about the people, places, events and all-around fabulousness of this wonderful place we call home. Buffalo is different and so is this site. We are here to share stories, encourage kindness, and help make this a better place to live.

We’ll help those in need when we can through our charity arm, Totally Buffalo Cares.

We help local small businesses, artisans and vendors though our events and our Totally Buffalo Stores.

We’ll do all of this with a little help from friends in our community.
