Local woman is making a difference by embracing it

Events, Good Neighbor, News
It is our responsibility, as parents, to teach our children to treat everyone the same, to show them that our differences make us special. Unfortunately, that is not always how life works. Robyn Zimmer wants to change that. She designed a special symbol as a visual reminder that we should all embrace the differences of others. It is a beautiful idea that has become beautiful jewelry,"The Embrace The Difference symbol, of interconnecting circles connected by a square is a visually powerful reminder to be kind and accepting for everyone is fighting their own battle." And Robyn says it's something she knows all too much about. The symbol represents Robyn's son, Sam who was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome when he was a boy, "Each day was a challenge. He was bullied and had no…

The Perfect Gift is a Gift to the community

Good Neighbor, News
For some folks, having a small business is a way to make a living and support their family. For some it's all that - plus a way to help the community! That is certainly the case for Deborah Tangelder of The Perfect Gift. Here's the thing - the store has beautiful products and supports LOCAL artists - in fact, they've supported 50 Western New York artists over the past 13 years. At a time when sometimes it feels like women are always judging one another, always trying to top one another, Deborah prefers to go in a different direction, supporting women and their businesses. That is totally awesome. And, how it should be! The Perfect Gift is a locally owed Gift Shop and Clothing Boutique.  Since its opening in 2003 their theme…

The community is rallying behind a man who's spent decades helping others. Dr. Tony Bianchi, who runs The Pain Relief Institute on Union Road in Cheektowaga was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few months ago. Tony's sister, Chris Opera told me her brother is a family man first and foremost, but he also loves being a chiropractor, "Tony has his own chiropractic business. He takes great pride in helping his patients become pain free and return to a happy and healthy lifestyle! People are drawn to him because of his personality, his love of his profession and the passion he has towards people." Tony loves his work, but his family comes first. His wife of 26-years, Sue and their three children Austin (22), Hannah (19), and Tessa (16) are his world…

Joyful Rescue, lucky pets.

Events, Good Neighbor, News
For fifteen years, the folks at Joyful Rescues have been saving animals from certain death. In fact, since they were founded in 2002, they've found loving homes for over 11,000 dogs and cats. 11,000! The organization also accepts pets from private owners who are unable to care for them any longer - and they never charge a fee to accept a pet. They take in cats when they can, but at times receive dozens of calls a day and need to place what they take in. All pets are spayed or neutered, dewormed, treated for fleas, and vaccinated. Dogs are micro chipped with lifetime registration paid for. Susan Buckman has volunteered for Joyful Rescues for about eleven years. She says it is rewarding and she feels blessed to do the…

Update On Bella’s Bumbas – Some GREAT news!

Good Neighbor, News
One of the reasons we started Totally Buffalo was to share stories about the incredible people, places and things that represent our wonderful home. To help make a difference. Even a small one. Last week, we brought you the story of retired grandparents who have made it their mission to help special kids by building special chairs. (READ STORY HERE).  Rebecca and Martin Parzynski first made a special Bumba chair for their little niece, Isabella, who was born with Spina Bifida. The chair changed the way the sweet baby got around, changed her attitude and made her happy! Rebecca told me once they saw Isabella so happy, they knew they had to make more. They had to help other kids, too. So they started Bella's Bumbas and have received requests from…
