Henna Happiness

Mondays are often such hard days, dragging into the office after the weekend, and not enjoying anything about the first workday of the week.  Well, what if you had a job that makes you happy and shares your happiness with others?  That’s exactly why Lauren Szmak started her business, called Loti Henna Studio.

What is henna?  It’s a dye that’s produced from finely ground leaves of a plant.  That dye is used as temporary body art on your skin, hair and even fingernails.  Worried about what’s in the dye product?  Don’t be – at Loti Henna Studio, Lauren makes her own all natural paste made of henna powder, lemon juice, sugar and a few essential oils.  Some smaller henna designs can be done in a matter of minutes but large, intricate designs will take a little bit longer to complete.   Although it is optimal to leave the henna paste on overnight for a rich, dark and longer lasting stain.

Lauren started Loti Henna Studio two years ago because she’s always had a great love for henna designs.  As a child, she would save up and spend her hard earned money on kits from the craft store.  Lauren says tattoos were always an infatuation from the time when she was little, but being under 18, she couldn’t get the real thing…not yet.  “Henna allowed me to have a few temporary tattoos now and again until I could get the real thing.   As I got older I started doing a little more research about henna, its history and finding different designs I could try out. That is where my true appreciation for the art form started.”

Loti Henna Studio started when Lauren transformed her love for Henna Art into a way to make a living in her hometown of Western New York.  What started as a few parties here and there then took her to a booth at local art festivals and then to an online shop featuring Buffalo-themed items.  Now she has a mobile studio where she brings her henna art to the location of choice.  If hosting a party for friends and family isn’t your thing, going online to her store is just as easy.  She features hair ties, headbands, and clothing with her unique designs.  “As an artist I tend to venture into various art forms and in doing so I want to bring something a little different to Buffalo. Henna has been around for many years and is not new to the Buffalo area but I am looking to put my own spin on it as I find new ways to merge the two.”

Lauren tells us Loti Henna Studio is available for all kinds of events such as bridal showers, baby showers, birthday parties, graduation parties, after prom parties and other school events, corporate events, fundraisers, girls night, etc.  You can also still catch Lauren at WNY art festivals throughout the year.   When asked to pick a favorite event, Lauren can’t pick just one!  “I think it’s fun going to a variety of places where I get to meet new people and learn a few things about them.”

These days, online shopping is the thing to do – and Lauren’s Etsy shop offers a variety of items to customers worldwide.  Even out of state customers who love to show off their pride in their hometown.

Here’s a deal courtesy of Loti Henna Studio that is only good through the end of this month!

Lauren’s running a promotion throughout the month of October to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 50% of all proceeds of the pink items in the Etsy shop will be donated to the Breast Cancer Network of Western New York.   Great cause to support with some very cool items!

About Me

Welcome to Totally Buffalo! A local lifestyle website.

My name is Mary Friona-Celani and I am the creator of this site! I’m a wife, a mom, a grandma, a Buffalo booster, an entrepreneur and a small business owner. I’m so glad you stopped by.  After 20 years in the buffalo media, I went out on my own to tell stories about the people, places, events and all-around fabulousness of this wonderful place we call home. Buffalo is different and so is this site. We are here to share stories, encourage kindness, and help make this a better place to live.

We’ll help those in need when we can through our charity arm, Totally Buffalo Cares.

We help local small businesses, artisans and vendors though our events and our Totally Buffalo Stores.

We’ll do all of this with a little help from friends in our community.
