I mean… they could not have picked a better time.

Right..

On Sunday, January 7, 2018, the 17th Annual Silver Creek Polar Bear Swim for charity will take place at the Firehouse on the Lake (Firemen’s Club), 23 Jackson Street in the Village of Silver Creek. We will also be celebrating the Buffalo Bills Playoff Game.

Both the swim and game take place promptly at 1pm. There will be extra TVs at the Club to enjoy the game. Everyone that comes inside the club will be entered into a free half-time special prize drawing – $150 in spending cash plus other prizes (no purchase necessary but must be present to win). Non-swimming events begin at noon and last until 5pm.

The charities benefiting from this event will be Oishei Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, the Silver Creek Emergency Squad & Fire Department, Sunset Bay Volunteer Fire Department and the Silver Creek Food Pantry.

Swimmers brave the frigid Lake Erie temperatures for a quick dip. Money is raised through pledges from swimmers and other activities throughout the day. Prizes for the swimmer that generates the most pledges and best costumes are awarded. Anyone that brings in $200 in pledges receives a free Polar Bear Swim T-Shirt and for those that generate over $500 a sweat shirt is offered.

For the non-swimmers there is plenty to keep you amused. Entertainment will be provided by “Rock ‘n Roll to the Rescue”, wine tasting with Merritt Winery, a Chinese auction, fantasy black jack and the halftime drawing will round out the day. There will be a full cash bar plus Mineo & Sapio Italian sausage, hot dogs and chili available for purchase. New this year – hot beverages will be provided by Purr-fect Tea of East Aurora. There is no admission fee for spectators but a donation of non-perishable food, cleaning supplies, paper products and health & beauty aids is requested for the Food Pantry.

About Me

Welcome to Totally Buffalo! A local lifestyle website.

My name is Mary Friona-Celani and I am the creator of this site! I’m a wife, a mom, a grandma, a Buffalo booster, an entrepreneur and a small business owner. I’m so glad you stopped by.  After 20 years in the buffalo media, I went out on my own to tell stories about the people, places, events and all-around fabulousness of this wonderful place we call home. Buffalo is different and so is this site. We are here to share stories, encourage kindness, and help make this a better place to live.

We’ll help those in need when we can through our charity arm, Totally Buffalo Cares.

We help local small businesses, artisans and vendors though our events and our Totally Buffalo Stores.

We’ll do all of this with a little help from friends in our community.
