They are a few hours in, but so far – so good! Staff started moving patients at 7 a.m. and continue to do so. The move is on schedule to take about 24 hours!
Officials with the hospital say it has been smooth sailing so far. There was one slight elevator delay at the old hospital, but engineers quickly fixed the problem. Other than that small issue, they have not had any problems.
At the old hospital – The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit has been moved and is currently empty!
They biggest challenges are really dependent on the patient. Some of the kiddos have needed a bit of emotional support and with the help of child life services – they’re really doing great. 800 staff members are working shifts between both hospitals. There is a lot of happiness and tears as staff member remissness.
There is one mom in labor at the old hospital – which will likely be the very last baby born at the building that has cared for countless babies, children and women for more than 100 years.
As of about 11 a.m. – at the new hospital – they’ve had two emergency room patients, several moms come in labor and an excited staff ready to help everyone.
Please be aware of the traffic!  The ambulances and trucks are moving babies on life support! Kids who need their cancer drugs hooked back up ASAP! And picu babies, mothers fathers and family under extreme stress! An amazing new hospital in Buffalo, please respect their mission and pull over! Your 1 minute means the world to that small patient, just trying to live.
