They are a few hours in, but so far – so good! Staff started moving patients at 7 a.m. and continue to do so.  The move is on schedule to take about 24 hours!

Officials with the hospital say it has been smooth sailing so far.  There was one slight elevator delay at the old hospital, but engineers quickly fixed the problem. Other than that small issue, they have not had any problems.

They biggest challenges are really dependent on the patient. Some of the kiddos have needed a bit of emotional support and with the help of child life services – they’re really doing great. 800 staff members are working shifts between both hospitals. There is a lot of happiness and tears as staff member remissness.

There is one mom in labor at the old hospital – which will likely be the very last baby born at the building that has cared for countless babies, children and women for more than 100 years.

As of about 11 a.m. – at the new hospital – they’ve had two emergency room patients, several moms come in labor and an excited staff ready to help everyone.

Please be aware of the traffic!  The ambulances and trucks are moving babies on life support! Kids who need their cancer drugs hooked back up ASAP! And picu babies, mothers fathers and family under extreme stress! An amazing new hospital in Buffalo, please respect their mission and pull over! Your 1 minute means the world to that small patient, just trying to live.

About Me

Welcome to Totally Buffalo! A local lifestyle website.

My name is Mary Friona-Celani and I am the creator of this site! I’m a wife, a mom, a grandma, a Buffalo booster, an entrepreneur and a small business owner. I’m so glad you stopped by.  After 20 years in the buffalo media, I went out on my own to tell stories about the people, places, events and all-around fabulousness of this wonderful place we call home. Buffalo is different and so is this site. We are here to share stories, encourage kindness, and help make this a better place to live.

We’ll help those in need when we can through our charity arm, Totally Buffalo Cares.

We help local small businesses, artisans and vendors though our events and our Totally Buffalo Stores.

We’ll do all of this with a little help from friends in our community.
