Did you know that 3,502 babies were born at Sisters Hospital in 2017? It’s a wonderful place to give birth.

Well, I might be a bit biased here.

Full disclosure, I had two of my babies at Sisters Hospital and both were amazing experiences. Everything from my doctor to the nurses to the nursery. All of it. Amazing.

And guess what? They’re growing!

Sisters Hospital’s newly expanded Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is set to open later this month. The $8.8 million unit is located adjacent to the hospital’s Mother-Baby Unit, creating one centralized location for mother-baby care, the 21,000 square-foot NICU is almost three times the size of the hospital’s existing unit. With 3,500 births in 2017, Sisters Hospital delivers more babies than other hospital in WNY. As a designated Level III NICU, the state-of-the-art facility is staffed and equipped to provide specialized care for premature infants as young as 23 weeks (micro-preemies) and full-term babies with special needs.

Some of the features of the new unit include:

· Expanded in-patient capacity from 20 to 40 bassinettes.

· New single-family rooms designed to enhance individualized care, with dedicated rooms for multiple births (twins and triplets).

· In-room features including reduced lighting and sound controls to create a soothing environment for preemies, specially designed infant “bathing sinks,” and personal refrigeration units for breast milk and formula.

· Dedicated “Parents Only” spaces designed with parent and family feedback.

This is such amazing news. We hope and pray that all babies are born healthy, but often times they aren’t and need life-saving help. Sisters is ready.

Welcome to Totally Buffalo! A local lifestyle website.

My name is Mary Friona-Celani and I am the creator of this site! I’m a wife, a mom, a grandma, a Buffalo booster, an entrepreneur and a small business owner. I’m so glad you stopped by.  After 20 years in the buffalo media, I went out on my own to tell stories about the people, places, events and all-around fabulousness of this wonderful place we call home. Buffalo is different and so is this site. We are here to share stories, encourage kindness, and help make this a better place to live.

We’ll help those in need when we can through our charity arm, Totally Buffalo Cares.

We help local small businesses, artisans and vendors though our events and our Totally Buffalo Stores.

We’ll do all of this with a little help from friends in our community.
