New York State Trooper Joseph Gallagher was helping a stranded motorist on December 18th – when he was struck by a car on an overpass from the Long Island Expressway. The 35-year old, West Seneca Native was critically injured and remains hospitalized.
Family and friends want everyone to know that they believe in the power of prayer and they’re making a request.
Trish Casillo says the family hopes everyone can come together for a brief moment and help her nephew, “It will be 3 weeks to the day that my nephew Joe was hit while on duty helping a disabled driver. All have offered prayers but I believe that there is such power in prayer and even more power in a huge surge of prayer all at the same time!”
The family hopes you will stop what you’re doing at 2:30 Monday afternoon – the exact time of the accident – and invoke Joe Gallagher’s name in prayer. They are hoping for a true miracle.
Although Trooper Gallagher has shown small improvements, he remains unconscious.
The family would also like to thank all of the caring troopers who have helped the family in any and every way possible.
Trooper Gallagher was born in South Buffalo and went to Bishop Timon High School.
He lives downstate and has a wife and two young children.
We are sending prayers to Trooper Gallagher and his family.
My son is a NYS Trooper too. My prayers have been with Trooper Gallagher and his family since day one and it will continue till his recovery! May God Bless him with a speedy recovery and watch over his family.

I just saw this at 2:30 on monday. Said a prayer before I finished reading the story. So at 2:30 I was saying prayers for Trooper Gallagher. I am in my bed waiting for surgery on my broken leg on friday. May God Bless this man and his family.

I will continue to pray for a full and speedy recovery for Trooper Gallagher. As a widow of a NJSP Trooper, who was killed in the line of duty in 1997, I am well aware of the dangers of these brave men and women that wear a uniform. We also have established a memorial fund in memory of my late husband, Trooper Scott Gonzalez, and plan to honor Trooper Gallagher at our Annual Bridge Dinner, held at Shawnee Inn in PA, in February. This dinner, created in memory of my husband, recognizes state police members ( and their families) from NJ, PA and NY, for critical situations such as this, as well as for Line of Duty deaths, that have occurred during the prior year. Our goal is to shed some light upon those who are in darkness, offering some emotional , and monetary support to those families in need, since the law enforcement community, is really an extended family, regardless of the state lines that separate us. Proceeds go to each of the several designated families from these 3 agencies.

I too am the mother of a NYS Trooper and I know the family unite that exists with these men and women. May Trooper Gallagher be given strength to recover, may positive thoughts be with him and his family and may the blessings of God be with him, his family and all of his family in purple and grey.
