Pediatric Cancer Awareness – A Story of Grief and Unimaginable Pain

As we continue to shine gold for pediatric cancer awareness month – we continue to share stories of amazing children who have or continue to battle cancer. Today, we are spotlighting a beautiful little girl named Hannah.

Hannah Grace Boyer would have turned 6 on September 6th. But, she didn’t have that chance – instead, cancer took her. Cancer robbed Hannah of her life. It’s hard to process and impossible to imagine.

Hannah died on August 31, 2018 – just days before her fifth birthday. She was a warrior, fighting the disease for nearly three years.  Hannah’s mother, Chandra Boyer wrote this after her daughter passed away one year ago yesterday, “Hannah fought cancer with bravery, determination and joy for 2 years, 7 months and 23 days. She spent more than half her life showing me how I want to live the rest of mine. It is now the early morning of September 1st, The first day of Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. I’m starting this new month without Hannah because there is so little funding and research for Pediatric Cancers. If your reading this and Hannah’s life touched you in some way please consider donating to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Hannah’s honor.”

Here is a link if you would like to make a donation to St. Jude’s in Hannah Boyer’s name.

We send many prayers for peace, our warmest thoughts and heartfelt condolences to all of those who love Hannah.

For Chandra – and every parent I have ever met or spoken with who have lost a child – keeping their child’s memory alive becomes the most important thing. They do not want their child to be forgotten. That is why we will continue to share stories of the beautiful, brave children we have lost – to remember they were here. To remember the joy they brought to all of the people they loved so much. We hope you will remember them with fondness.

But – as we think about this adorable little girl, it is incredibly important to spread the word – for Hannah and all of the other children battling cancer and those we’ve lost to the disease – that 4% is unacceptable. 4% of funding raised goes to research pediatric cancer. Those children deserve so much more. Contact your lawmakers and demand change.

Also, please register to be a bone marrow donor through Be The Match.  You can save a life.

About Me

Welcome to Totally Buffalo! A local lifestyle website.

My name is Mary Friona-Celani and I am the creator of this site! I’m a wife, a mom, a grandma, a Buffalo booster, an entrepreneur and a small business owner. I’m so glad you stopped by.  After 20 years in the buffalo media, I went out on my own to tell stories about the people, places, events and all-around fabulousness of this wonderful place we call home. Buffalo is different and so is this site. We are here to share stories, encourage kindness, and help make this a better place to live.

We’ll help those in need when we can through our charity arm, Totally Buffalo Cares.

We help local small businesses, artisans and vendors though our events and our Totally Buffalo Stores.

We’ll do all of this with a little help from friends in our community.
