We received a ton of feedback from our story about the Wolverine Closet; the free store for students at Niagara Falls High School. So many of you agree this is a wonderful idea. So many of you wanted to know how you can help, which again proves how generous and caring this community is.
Lori Ross Moskaluk is one of the organizers of the shop. She says she thought there should be something for the kids, so she started with donations from her nieces and the school’s teachers and it all went from there.
It’s really a brilliant idea. The donations come in, the students volunteer for shifts, working in the store, hanging and straightening the clothes, even washing them when needed. The hours go toward their required volunteer hours for graduation.
And then, all of the students get to shop in the store for what they need. Everything is free. Everything!!!!!!
Right now, they have enough clothing for quite a while – which is great. What they now need are things like prom dresses and suits for the big prom season coming up. They also need new personal care items. Things like undergarments – socks, underwear and bras – as well as personal hygiene items like soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste. Lori says it’s amazing what such a small item can mean, “It puts a smile on their face. It will mean the world just to have soap and a new toothbrush and toothpaste. It goes so quickly when we do have it in stock. They take it home for their families too. We never refuse them and some come back for more. They are very appreciative.”
You can drop off the items at the high school on school days between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. (4455 Porter Rd, Niagara Falls, NY)
These kids just need a little help as they are working towards a better and brighter future!
