U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will visit Buffalo this summer.
Ginsburg, who has served on the high court since 1993, will speak to students at the University at Buffalo School of Law during the first part of her visit on August 26. She will also serve as the special guest at a program for the Western New York legal community at Kleinhans Music Hall.
While at U.B., SUNY Chancellor Kristina Johnson will present Ginsburg with an honorary doctoral degree in law from the State University of New York.
The Brooklyn native studied law at Harvard and Columbia, graduating first in her class in 1959, but no New York City law firms would offer a job to a woman. During the 1970s, she argued a number of women’s rights cases at the Supreme Court.
