It’s more proof of the love this community and all of Western New York has for Hall of Fame Quarterback, Jim Kelly. Kelly announced in early March that his cancer had returned. Today is the day of his major surgery in New York City. Surgeons will remove the cancer and reconstruct Kelly’s upper jaw.
The folks at Taste Coffee Shop in East Aurora have made a huge card and it’s been signed by many in our community. Many wishing the former Bills quarterback good luck, reminding him they are praying, offering up a #KellyTough hash tag, and sending thoughts and positive vibes!
The folks at Taste tell me it was important to make this card to show support to a guy who always seems to be giving back to Western New York in one way or another. Bill Colburn is the manager at Taste and says it’s all about giving back, “Former Bills like Steve Tasker and Mark Kelso call East Aurora home and give us a special connection. They’re here and so this community wants to show support to them and to Jim Kelly. He’s a hero to many. These signatures on the card are great, it’s special.”
Bill also tells me the owners of the shop can relate to Kelly a bit. Yvonne Evilsizor has Crohn’s Disease and her husband, Ed has Parkinson’s Disease so they’ve gone through a lot of struggles, they’ve seen a lot of success and their health started to impact them – so they feel like they can relate to Jim.
So far several hundred people have signed it, with more folks coming in all the time. You can sign it, too – just head to Taste Coffee Shop, 634 Main Street, East Aurora.
The plan is to get the card to Jim Kelly when he gets back to Western New York!
We’re all pulling for you, Jim!
