UPDATE: Buffalo Police arrested an individual that destroyed a Blessed Mother Statue with a baseball bat and left a note inside the damaged statue. The statue was located at St. John Kanty Church on the 100 block of Swinburne. Buffalo Police arrested 18-year-old Kalil Colbert of Buffalo and charged him with Criminal Mischief – 3rd degree, Aggravated Harassment – 1st degree and Hate Crime/ Aggravated Harassment – 2nd degree.

This is just awful.

Buffalo Police are on the lookout for whoever decided it was a good idea to smash the beautiful statue of Mary.

A Mary statue has been there for around 40 years – this one replaced the old one about four years ago.

Father Burzynski told me in a phone interview that there was a note left behind which read in part,

“Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven. False profits shall deceive many. This building will be destroyed. Stop worshiping Mary. Worship God.  God is jealous.”

The statue sits in a garden area outside of Saint John Kanty Church on Broadway.

The nearly five foot tall statue had it’s face and hands smashed.

As for Father Burzynski, there’s one thing he would like to tell the vandals, “Christianity is a religion of love not destruction.”

They do plan on replacing the statue.

If you have any information on who may have done this damage, you’re asked to call the Buffalo Police Department.  You can call their anonymous tipline at 716-847-2255.
