A short flight to Buffalo ended with a tribute to a fallen service member as his remains were escorted off the plane.

It was a moment that Samii Cyrana will never forget.

On December 19th she took a short Delta flight from Detroit to Buffalo. They pulled into Buffalo and as passengers were about to enter the jet bridge, the flight attendant made a sad, surreal announcement over the loudspeaker – there was a fallen service member aboard; passengers were asked to remain seated.

Samii stayed and waited for the fallen service member to be escorted off the plane. She watched in awe, ” My heart was heavy as I watched this brave American, who fought for our country, get escorted off to his final resting place. This was the most sad but amazing thing I’ve ever watched in my life. Just want to say thank you to Delta Airlines for the amazing tribute to a fallen soldier.”

Samii wanted to share the photos to pay tribute to that fallen hero. She told me it was a special moment,  “It was something so sad but so amazing at the same time. I’ve never seen anything like that before.”

We are not releasing the name of the service member because we are not sure his family would want us to. We certainly send our condolences to his loved ones.

During this Christmas season, maybe we can all stop, think about, and say a prayer for this service member, all the others, and all those loved ones who aren’t here with us.

God Bless America.

Thank you, Samii – for reminding us what is truly important during this holiday season and all year long.

About Me

Welcome to Totally Buffalo! A local lifestyle website.

My name is Mary Friona-Celani and I am the creator of this site! I’m a wife, a mom, a grandma, a Buffalo booster, an entrepreneur and a small business owner. I’m so glad you stopped by.  After 20 years in the buffalo media, I went out on my own to tell stories about the people, places, events and all-around fabulousness of this wonderful place we call home. Buffalo is different and so is this site. We are here to share stories, encourage kindness, and help make this a better place to live.

We’ll help those in need when we can through our charity arm, Totally Buffalo Cares.

We help local small businesses, artisans and vendors though our events and our Totally Buffalo Stores.

We’ll do all of this with a little help from friends in our community.
