A New Friend for The Aquarium of Niagara & she’s SUPER Cute

The Aquarium has a new resident! She’s a 2-year-old grey seal named Medusa!

The seal was rescued off the coast of Long Island in Riverhead, NY on March 25, 2106. She was found stranded, and was transported to a rehabilitation and medical treatment center because she was in rough shape.

Turns out Medusa has bilateral cataracts and was deemed visually impaired in both eyes and therefore, could not be released back into the wild. She’s at home now at the Aquarium of Niagara.

Medusa is learning a great deal with trainers at the Aquarium. She weighs 90 pounds right now, but will be about 300 pounds when she’s fully grown.

The Aquarium is becoming the premier facility for blind seals and it is a long but rewarding process to work with blind animals. Medusa is joined by Sandy, a harbor seal affected by cataracts and by Della, a 26 year old grey seal also blind from cataracts.

We can’t wait to go see Medusa and the rest of the gang!

The Aquarium is open everyday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

About Me

Welcome to Totally Buffalo! A local lifestyle website.

My name is Mary Friona-Celani and I am the creator of this site! I’m a wife, a mom, a grandma, a Buffalo booster, an entrepreneur and a small business owner. I’m so glad you stopped by.  After 20 years in the buffalo media, I went out on my own to tell stories about the people, places, events and all-around fabulousness of this wonderful place we call home. Buffalo is different and so is this site. We are here to share stories, encourage kindness, and help make this a better place to live.

We’ll help those in need when we can through our charity arm, Totally Buffalo Cares.

We help local small businesses, artisans and vendors though our events and our Totally Buffalo Stores.

We’ll do all of this with a little help from friends in our community.
