A new canine rescue is on a mission to save dogs at risk of euthanasia. Nickel City Canine Rescue is the newest dog rescue in Buffalo! Their mission is to rescue displaced and unwanted animals at risk of euthanasia from shelters in the south.
We asked Founder and President, Danielle McCall about her new organization.
First up – why?
“Nickel City Canine Rescue was created and named after this fabulous city. As the president of Nickel City Canine Rescue, I have been working in the rescue community for about 5 years. Buffalo never ceases to amaze me when it comes to its support the rescue animals. Many other rescues in other cities are not as fortunate to have the support of their community. When Nickel City Canine Rescue was founded I wanted to give Buffalo a rescue that would support the community as much as they support us!”
What are the hopes for this rescue?
“Working in rescue gives many people a sense of purpose. It allows you to be part of something much bigger than yourself. Helping place some of these dogs is a very rewarding experience when they go from scared and shut down to alive and excited. Our rescue is very similar to many other local groups in the sense that we save dogs. However we are different because we believe that the rescue should support the community. We work with many local vendors for our food, adoption events, etc to help grow the small businesses locally. We also help local dogs in need as long as they are dog friendly. We believe that everyone deserves a second chance.”
How can folks help?
“People can help in a variety of ways. We understand that not everyone can foster, so if that’s the case sign up to volunteer. Help bring dogs to their vet appointments, help process adoption applications, help with reference calls. If you don’t have time to donate, you can always share our posts, or donate to our fundraisers. Rescue truly takes a village in order to be successful.”
