It’s hard to imagine what 26-year-old Kim Beeghley is going through.

The young mother of two boys is fighting cancer – and she also recently lost everything in a fire – when the apartment building she lived in – burned down.

Kim and her boyfriend, along with their boys, ages 2 and 4, moved into a new apartment in Hamburg on September 1st. The fire broke out September 30th – before they’d even unpacked everything. She told me in a phone interview how challenging it’s been,

“We are struggling. We had to stay in a motel for three weeks and didn’t have a fridge or stove so we basically had to order out and it really added up. We are having a tough time.”

Not to mention, they did not have renters insurance – and lost everything they owned.

Everything.

Think about what everything might be.

As if that isn’t enough to deal with – Kim has been battling cancer for two years. She was 24 when she was diagnosed with Stage Four Thyroid Cancer. The disease spread to her vocal cords.  Kim has undergone radiation and recently had a tracheotomy put in to help her heal. She’s hoping to have it surgically removed in the next few months.

The very kind folks at Our Mother of Good Counsel Church have taken Kim under their wing and are helping the young mom get back on her feet. They’re taking up a collection – and they’re hoping the caring community of Western New York will help.

Donna Kogut has been helping people through her church group for years and years – and says this is one of the most heartbreaking cases, “It is just so sad, I don’t know. This poor girl, not only did she have a fire and lose everything, but her life is at stake – I can’t even put it into words. We just have to help her.”

Kim says she has received some clothes for her family through donations – but really needs hats, gloves, and snow pants for her family. She is also hoping for toys for her little ones – who keep asking where their toys are. The 2-year-old loves anything Paw Patrol and his big brother is a big fan of Thomas the Train.

If you would like to help – anything would make a difference. Gift cards would be ideal for things like toiletries, food, a vacuum cleaner and cleaning supplies. All of the things that many of us take for granted. The family has moved into a new apartment and have received donations of furniture.

Donations can be brought or mailed to:

Our Mother of Good Council.

As much as there are many nice used items, many used items are not so good. It can be even more of a burden to go through piles and piles of used items and then bring the ones you can’t use some place. It’s understandable when you’re dealing with cancer and two young children.  The folks at the church as really asking for new items or gift cards.

You can also help the family through their fundraising page. Here is a link to their  GOFUNDME PAGE.

About Me

Welcome to Totally Buffalo! A local lifestyle website.

My name is Mary Friona-Celani and I am the creator of this site! I’m a wife, a mom, a grandma, a Buffalo booster, an entrepreneur and a small business owner. I’m so glad you stopped by.  After 20 years in the buffalo media, I went out on my own to tell stories about the people, places, events and all-around fabulousness of this wonderful place we call home. Buffalo is different and so is this site. We are here to share stories, encourage kindness, and help make this a better place to live.

We’ll help those in need when we can through our charity arm, Totally Buffalo Cares.

We help local small businesses, artisans and vendors though our events and our Totally Buffalo Stores.

We’ll do all of this with a little help from friends in our community.

Over the past several weeks I have collected many donations from parishioners from my church, family & friends. At this point we are hoping to collect gift cards or checks sent to OMGC 3688 South Park, Blasdell 14219 c/o Donna Kogut. Any dollar amount is appreciated. It will give the family the opportunity to shop and purchase new items that they still need or perhaps help pay the car payment, car insurance or gas so mom can continue to travel to Roswell 3x’s a week. The holidays are approaching and it would be nice to give this family the “lift” they so desperately need. Thank you in advance if you are able to help brighten their holidays. God bless… Donna

Hello Everyone! With the attention from this blog, and with the help from the parishioners at Our Mother of Good Counsel Church in Blasdell, Kim and her two little boys will be having a very Merry Christmas. OMGC adopted this family and the response has been tremendous! The children’s wish list was completed along with many extras. Cash, clothing and many gift cards were donated. Kim is still under doctors care and takes one day at a time. She truly appreciates all the help she has received and thanks each & everyone of you! Thank you Mary, for interviewing this young family during such a difficult time in their life. Merry Christmas & God Bless ~ Donna Kogut
