A few weeks ago we told you about 7-year-old Alannah Pionessa and her goal to collect blankets and books for babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Women & Children’s Hospital. (READ ORIGINAL STORY HERE)
It all started when Alannah’s mom, Heather asked her what she wanted for her 8th birthday on June 8th. Little Alannah said the only thing she wanted was to give blankets and books to the babies in the NICU.
Alannah was once one of those babies.
She was born nine weeks early and spent 80 days there. 80. And as it so happens – her mother read her books all the time. She couldn’t wear clothes so her parents got her some nice, soft, warm blankets.
So, you see – even though she may not remember that time, she’s heard the stories. She’s seen the pictures. So, she knows.
She knows just what those books and blankets will mean.
That’s why she asked for them. Her mom put the word out and so did we.
Now just one week before her birthday, we have an update right from Alannah’s mom. Keep this in mind. Alannah wanted to collect 70 books and 70 blankets.
As of now – are you ready for this – they have collected 131 blankets and 115 books!!!!! They blew their goal out of the water!

Thank you to the Pink Martini Gift Shop on Grand Island and Rolly Pollies for serving as collection sites for the books and blankets!
Way to go Alannah!
I am not at all surprised or shocked by this outpouring of love and support. I’m proud of my community and proud of sweet little Alannah.
She was a NICU baby 8 years ago, now she’s giving back, saying thanks.
