It is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month.

I’d like you to be aware of sweet little Jonah. We first introduced you to Jonah a few months ago. (read original story here)

Jonah is a 3-year-old boy from North Collins who is battling stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma. He has been fighting since his diagnosis in December of 2014; since he was just 15 months old.

For three years this sweet little boy has been in and out of the hospital – back and forth to New York City where he is receiving treatment. It is heartbreaking to think that this poor little boy has basically been suffering for years because of this monster that is cancer. For his parents, Jenn and Adam DeLang, it is a nightmare that is excruciating to everyone involved.

Jonah is once again receiving treatment in New York. He has been having a very difficult few days and the frustration, as you can imagine, is boiling over,  “I’m beyond frustrated at this point. I can’t understand how these treatments can be administered in good conscious when there is no way to effectively manage the outrageous side effects they cause and why the hell the inpatient floor team is not equipped to handle these kids after treatment,” said Jenn, “It is unlikely we get out of here until late this coming week.  Jonah will likely spend his birthday here in the hospital. I’m so heartbroken for him. He’s terribly depressed and so consumed with anxiety. Nothing I try pulls him out of the depression.”

What children like Jonah go through is gut-wrenching and completely unfair. And as they continue to wait for answers – as to just what is going on to make Jonah so sick right now – that 3-year-old boy is beginning to lose hope. He’s sad, anxious, and depressed.

Please pray from him and his family.

I am hoping to help raise awareness about some of the facts including this. The National Cancer Institute – which controls billions of dollars  and releases a fraction of its resources to specifically help children with cancer is taxpayer-funded – which means that our voice counts. This is why you have to call or write to your elected leaders and tell them to give these children more than four.

Children like Jonah.

Who will be turning four soon. Jonah will likely be in the hospital or at the Ronald McDonald House in New York so please, if you have a few moments, send him a card.

Birthday cards can be sent to this address while the family is in NYC for treatment:

About Me

Welcome to Totally Buffalo! A local lifestyle website.

My name is Mary Friona-Celani and I am the creator of this site! I’m a wife, a mom, a grandma, a Buffalo booster, an entrepreneur and a small business owner. I’m so glad you stopped by.  After 20 years in the buffalo media, I went out on my own to tell stories about the people, places, events and all-around fabulousness of this wonderful place we call home. Buffalo is different and so is this site. We are here to share stories, encourage kindness, and help make this a better place to live.

We’ll help those in need when we can through our charity arm, Totally Buffalo Cares.

We help local small businesses, artisans and vendors though our events and our Totally Buffalo Stores.

We’ll do all of this with a little help from friends in our community.
