Rycky Pera was born and raised in Niagara Falls. She moved to Florida a few months ago when he fiance’ was deployed. Now, this former Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center nurse – is in the thick of things in one of the areas hardest hit by COVID-19 – New York City.
Rycky followed her heart and headed to Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital in Manhattan to work in the Emergency Department. “I wanted to make a difference in someone’s life, they are alone, scared, and helpless. There aren’t enough nurses to comfort or care for these poor souls.”
She says it’s been tough but worth it. “These poor nurses are so tired, overwhelmed my heart said go help them. It is by far the best decision I have ever made. The patients, staff and residents of NYC are ever grateful to have all of us here.”
 Â
Rycky says she loves being a nurse – it is her home, her calling.
One thing Rycky says she does need is Clorox Wipes and Lysol as she tries to keep her hotel room and other common areas as clean as possible to prevent illness.
