She did it!

WIVB Morning Reporter, Katie Alexander cut her hair for a great cause! She’s been talking about doing this for a while – and her hair has been growing and growing to get ready.

Eleven inches of hair in four ponytails – all cut off in order to make a wig for someone fighting cancer. Add to that – the $700 Katie has raised for Roswell Park Cancer Institute – and it’s official – Katie is amazing!

And she’s feeling great about it, “I am feeling fantastic right now! I was able to donate 11 inches of hair live during News 4 Wake Up this morning to make a wig for someone fighting cancer through Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths program and to help raise money for Roswell Park Cancer Institute to continue its cutting-edge research, hopefully so that one day no one will have to face a cancer fight.”

Katie admits – she had some butterflies, “I have to admit, I was pretty nervous when I was sitting in the chair at Studio 14120. I’ve donated a few times before, so I knew I’d survive, obviously. But there’s always a moment of panic when they start chopping your ponytail and you realize there’s no turning back. I am so glad I went through with it and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to give what I can to make a difference for the person who gets my hair, and for cancer patients everywhere who can benefit from the breakthroughs coming out of Roswell Park.”

The end result is simply gorgeous!

Katie is a bit shy of her goal – so if you would like to help – here is a link to her fundraising page baldforbucks.org/katieWIVB

Way to go, Katie. Thank you for reminding us that we can all make a difference!

About Me

Welcome to Totally Buffalo! A local lifestyle website.

My name is Mary Friona-Celani and I am the creator of this site! I’m a wife, a mom, a grandma, a Buffalo booster, an entrepreneur and a small business owner. I’m so glad you stopped by.  After 20 years in the buffalo media, I went out on my own to tell stories about the people, places, events and all-around fabulousness of this wonderful place we call home. Buffalo is different and so is this site. We are here to share stories, encourage kindness, and help make this a better place to live.

We’ll help those in need when we can through our charity arm, Totally Buffalo Cares.

We help local small businesses, artisans and vendors though our events and our Totally Buffalo Stores.

We’ll do all of this with a little help from friends in our community.
