When I first heard about this local company and their line of specialized jewelry – I was floored. I’d never heard of jewelry with a USB hidden inside, but the more I found out about it, the more it made amazing sense. Beth and Steve Guilmart of Lockport have something many people could really use. Their business, USB-LE Jewelry is very unique.
Beth says it was a true collaboration, “My husband, Steve, a Vietnam Veteran, was a medivac pilot and saw a unique need for medical ID jewelry, while I was working with senior citizens and people with Parkinson’s disease, I also saw a need. So together, we realized by developing a program that could be included on a USB that was nice to wear, it would really help people.”
Beth designs the acrylic snaps for the snap-able jewelry. She also created the program inside the medical USB ID jewelry.
I know. It’s brilliant.
It looks like a beautiful piece of jewelry or key chain, but is much more functional and important.
The USB includes a form you fill out with your medical information and because the USB is 8 gigabytes, you can put your x-rays, cat scans, living wills, and more all in one place. You can also update things as your medical needs change. If you’re wondering how it works, Beth says, it’s rather simple, “Most EMS carry tough books (we know Erie and Niagara counties do) so they can plug your USB in and get your important medical information when you can’t speak.”
You can find necklaces, bracelets, key chains and more – with most ranging in price from $15 to $25. What they can do, of course – is priceless!
