Are you one of the tens of thousands of Western New Yorkers who are saying “I’M SO DONE WITH WINTER!”??? Our fingers crossed that the snow days are behind us because today is the first day of May! The flowers are blooming and planting season has begun. The place to go for everything spring and for Mom (Yes, her special day is right around the corner!) is Zittel’s Country Market in Hamburg.
Next you may be asking, “Why should I go to Zittel’s for all my spring and garden needs?” Terry Zittel has a quick and easy answer. “We have been growing for Western New York for 120 years.” Who else can say that around here? We love to endorse our local businesses here on Totally Buffalo, and what better business to back than our local farmers? Homegrown fresh produce and plants is something that the Zittel’s family has mastered over the years.
Under the roof at the “Big Red Barn”, Zittel’s has a large selection of beautiful potted plants, hanging baskets, annuals, succulents, house plants and perennials grown in their own greenhouses. Knowledgeable and friendly staff are available to help you with your outdoor beautification projects. In fact, this writer went into Zittel’s recently and they helped pick out the right plants and find a beautiful pot to match too. You can also bring in your own pots to fill at any time. Combination containers are also available.
Did you know that classes at Zittel’s are FREE? The only cost is the materials used to make containers, that are affordably priced. In fact, here’s a fantastic idea, next Saturday, May 11, Zittel’s is hosting “Mother’s Day Make It For Mom”. Bring the kids to the event where all ages can make a creation for Mom or Grandma or pick out something that’s ready to go. Zittel’s also has gift certificates to give her so she can come pick out her favorite garden art, specialty foods or flowers when it’s most convenient for her schedule. If you’re interested in other classes at Zittel’s, they are usually held on Wednesday evenings or Saturdays. The full schedule is listed on zittels.com. Online registration is quick and easy.
Later this fall, the popular train rides are back! Catch the beautiful fall foliage on board with the family on board a train through Hamburg. Mark your calendars for September 28 and 29. Tickets are available on zittels.com or in the store.
Come visit Zittel’s this spring and support a local business with a long-standing tradition of bringing homegrown produce and plants to Western New York.
