Spotlight Interview – WKBW Sports Reporter – Matt Bové

Spotlight Interview – WKBW Sports Reporter – Matt Bové

Spotlight
He's a home-town guy covering his own home-town teams. Yikes. Sounds challenging - but no worries, Matt is a half-glass-full kinda guy. We caught up with him for our latest Spotlight interview. Q: Tell us how exciting it is to work in your own hometown! A: It's absolutely incredible and I realize how fortunate I am every day. When you go to school a lot of people tell you you're going to have to move away to get your first job, so to be able to get started in your hometown makes things a lot easier and less stressful. It's amazing what is happening in the city and I think we're all lucky to be apart of it. You know what they say, there's no place like home. Q: The switch…

26 Shirts helps families during their darkest time

26 Shirts helps families during their darkest time

Good Neighbor, News
The concept is pretty simple. A new shirt - every two weeks. Each one with pretty cool artwork. Each one to benefit a different person. The are all different - but, they are all the same, too. They all help a family in need. For Del Reid, who has now spread the 26 shirts love to Chicago, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh -  it's about doing the right thing. They've raised a mind-boggling $336,888 so far. From t-shirts. Amazing! Del tells me they can't do it alone, "Without contributing artists, sponsors, and of course customers, this idea goes nowhere." The latest shirt is going to help sweet baby Anastasia. The 8-month-old is fighting an inoperable brain tumor.  In spite of all of the tests and procedures Ana has endured,  there are multiple tests…

Update: Ginny's mom, Michele Lloyd tells me it was wonderful, "There was an amazing turnout!! Ginny felt good enough to stay til 9 p.m. Perfect! The weather had me worried, but it didn't stop anyone." That is certainly not surprising - this is the City of Good Neighbors. Please continue to help Ginny - by donating to her fundraising page (at the bottom of this story) If you've ever thought to yourself - life isn't fair - think about this. Ginny Fagard is 14 and she is battling brain cancer. She already beat leukemia ten years ago - yet, now - she's dealt this hand. Again. And she's fighting. She's has multiple brain surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, and way too many procedures to name. And she's fighting. That is not fair.…

Disney On Ice – Dare to Dream comes to Buffalo

Disney On Ice – Dare to Dream comes to Buffalo

Events
The folks at Disney really know how to tell a story, don't they? That's the case for their movies - and yes, their ice shows. Disney on Ice presents Dare to Dream is a hit! The show is divided into two 45 minute halves with a short 15 minute intermission in-between. The first half features - The Princess and the Frog with Princess Tiana, Disney's classic princess fairytale, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Cinderella. The second half is dedicated to Rapunzel and the story Tangled. It was a great show. Sure, maybe that's because my 5-year-old loves those sweet little princesses. But, truth be told - that's only part of it. The colorful costumes, and fast paced action made it a thrilling environment. Those little girls dressed in…

Weekly Sports Complainer: 7 Bills Invited to 2017 Pro Bowl – 1 For Each Win This Past Season

Opinion
Ah, The Pro Bowl.  A collection of the NFL’s best and brightest.  The cream of the crop that rose to the top and gets together for one of the most meaningless and uninspiring exercises in all of pro sports.  Yes, the Pro Bowl is awful, and we’ve known that for many years. But it seems as though when it comes to this year’s installment of this riveting all-star game, the NFL has decided to take the word ‘meaningless’ and really run with it.  That leads to me to our Bills.  7 – yes, 7 – Bills from the 2016 team have been invited to this Sunday’s Pro Bowl in Orlando.  And to top it off, the majority of those invites came from the defense!  That’s right - that same defense…

Spirit Halloween helps patients at Women & Children’s Hospital

Good Neighbor, News
'Spirit of Children' - a program partnered with Spirit Halloween - presented a grant for $42,136 to the Child Life Department and patients at Women & Children's Hospital. The presentation wraps up a year of fundraising by the store which sells Halloween costumes and accessories. This is a big deal for those sweet little patients. But, it gets even better. Spirit of Children has raised over $219,000 for the Child Life Department over the years and as they get ready to make their huge move to the new Oishei Children's Hospital - that money will make a huge difference - according to McKenzie Mattison, Manager of Volunteer and Family Services at Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo, "The support of the Spirit of Children has made it possible for Women…
