For Mindy Sauer, learning to live with a loss so great has been an uphill climb, one that takes work every single day, “I don’t know that the pain has gotten easier over the past three years. It’s changed. Or maybe I’ve changed. I suppose I’ve learned how to live with it.”

Living with grief doesn’t mean living with anger, “But anger is a cancer in itself. Left unchecked, it will literally eat you from the inside out.”

Three years ago, this entire community rallied behind beautiful little Ben Sauer. We prayed. We wore blue. For Mindy Sauer, the new normal for her family is difficult to navigate, “Grief is part of me now. I’m learning to live with it. And the weirdest part is knowing that grief and joy can peacefully coexist in this same person at the exact same moment.”
