It’s a tragedy that most of us can not even begin to comprehend.
It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon in the Zoar Valley Gorge, a stunning area with gorgeous waterfalls and sheer cliffs, when a pair of hikers came across the bodies of a young married couple, Amanda and William Green. Their 4-year-old son, Xander was there, too. He was critically injured. The three had fallen down a cliff that was as high as 200 feet.
As rescuers worked to evacuate the couple and Xander, they found evidence leading them to believe there was another child there. That was 7-year-old Jacob Green, who with a broken arm and ankle, had been walking the gorge, looking for help. It is not clear, according to officials investigating, if Jacob had also fallen down the cliff.
Xander, the youngest, was airlifted by Mercy Flight to Buffalo’s Women and Children’s Hospital with a head wound, internal injuries and multiple fractures.
The family, left grieving, are also left to care for the little boys – who miraculously survived the fall. That being said, the boys have a long road ahead of them; physically and emotionally. Both boys are responding well to treatment and according to a family member – Jacob has been released from the hospital and Xander has been moved out of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Women and Children’s Hospital.
Family and friends have set up a Gofundme account to help secure a financial future for those boys who’ve already lost so much.
Family members have asked me to pass along this message to the community, “We are extremely thankful for all the support and love we are receiving.”
Please help these little boys if you can.
Also if you would like to help with toy and clothing donations for the boys – you can.
BJs Wholesale Club in Blasdell has kindly offered to be a drop off point for non-monetary donations.
