Phillips Lytle’s history began in 1834 when Orsamus H. Marshall opened a one-man law office in Buffalo. Forty years after the office opened, Grover Cleveland joined the firm. He would eventually serve as Governor of the State of New York and President of the United States. Over the following decades, the firm that is today known as Phillips Lytle continued to grow and add expertise in a wide variety of practice areas. Today, the firm has more than 400 employees located in six offices in New York State, one office in Cleveland, OH, one office in Washington, D.C., and one office in Canada.
“Phillips Lytle has maintained its headquarters in the City of Buffalo for the past 185 years,” said Mayor Brown. “They are a pillar of our community, and a mainstay on lower Main Street in Downtown Buffalo. As I did 10 years ago on the Firm’s 175th anniversary, I am proud to honor the firm and declare today, Phillips Lytle Day in the City of Buffalo.”
Phillips Lytle’s Rochester Office will donate 185 cans of food to Foodlink, and the firm’s Albany Office will donate 185 items to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, in celebration of the anniversary.
