Imagine having the capacity to save a baby’s life.

Someone is needed to do just that to save the life of a little girl from Franklinville.

Baby Aelin is looking for a hero, a life-saver, a liver donor. The 4-month-old baby has a rare liver disease called Biliary Atresia and sadly, her liver is failing.

Aelin’s parents – Alanna and Rich are hoping someone will come to their little girl’s rescue. “We are asking for help as Aelin urgently needs a live donor match for a liver transplant as soon as possible. She’s a tough little fighter who has already been through so much!”

The couple, who’ve made a Facebook page for their Aelin, posted that their little girl is in rough shape, “Aelin underwent an intense 8 hour surgery on March 3rd at Buffalo’s Oishei Children’s Hospital called the Kasai procedure to re-route her small intestine to her liver. The surgery failed to be enough to fix her bile flow and Aelin’s liver is failing. Her abdomen is filling with fluid (Ascites) and her skin is starting to yellow with jaundice.”

Last week, Aelin was transferred to UPMC – Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (a hospital world-renowned for pediatric transplant success) where Alanna and Rich learned that Aelin is in critical need of a liver transplant. The waiting list is long to receive a liver from the deceased and a live transplant while she is at her healthiest would be best for little Aelin.

Even though she is a baby, Aelin is able to receive a portion of an adult liver! An adult would need to give her 25% of their liver and the remaining part will grow to fill the space in about 3 months time. To find a live donor match for Aelin would be an incredible, life-saving gift.

To consider being Aelin’s liver donor, you must be:
– Age 18-54
– Generally Healthy
– Blood Type O or B (Aelin is B+)
– Healthy Weight/Body Mass Index
– Non-smoker (30 days prior to surgery)

Please read the information from UPMC to learn the details involved to be a liver donor here: https://bit.ly/2VBKSLX

If interested in being Aelin’s donor, the first step is just to apply online here: https://livingdonorreg.upmc.com/.

Donor candidates will complete a phone interview and the single best candidate for Aelin will need to go to Pittsburgh for a day to undergo medical exams to determine if he/she is a good match. All medical costs will be covered under Alanna & Rich’s health insurance.

Please spread the word as this family needs all the love and support they can get for Aelin!
