Lucas, we just know you’re gonna LOVE your new bedroom!!!

Good Neighbor, News
UPDATE: No surprise... little Lucas loves his special space. Here's a look at his new bedroom! How fun is this... I can't even put into words how amazed I am with the folks at Special Spaces Buffalo. I know I've said it before and I'll say it again - THEY. ARE. AWESOME. What they do for these children - going through the worst of times - is seriously beautiful. They give them a bedroom where they can relax, enjoy themselves, be at peace. They let these kids know they are cared about, loved. I've covered quite a few and it never gets old. This time, it's Lucas' turn. The 8-year-old is battling Neuroblastoma. He is a high-energy little sweetie who loves Pokemon, Minecraft and carnivals. His favorite color is bright…

Plenty of people do plenty of things to make a difference for plenty of folks. It's quite remarkable to see what some people manage to come up with. This story is about a special little girl and how her family did something amazing to help her. Isabella Shorr is an adorable toddler who turns two in June. Isabella was born with Spina Bifida and was unable to get around much. Jeffrey Shorr said his little girl was really stuck just sitting in one place. Then something amazing happened. Right around her first birthday, Jeffrey's aunt and uncle built little Isabella a special type of wheel chair. They made it out of a bumbo seat - (which is a little chair for babies) and wheels.  Jeffrey says Isabella quickly learned how…

Happy 95th to this lovely Sabres fan!

Happy 95th to this lovely Sabres fan!

Good Neighbor, News
Happy Birthday Ethel Nuse! How did the sweet lady celebrate her 95th birthday? With a fabulous surprise party that was thrown by Senior Wishes! Ethel is an original resident of United Church Manor - which opened in West Seneca 30 years ago! There was punch, cake and plenty of celebrating with Ethel's friends, along with her two sons and her sister. Nuse is a life-long Buffalo Sabres fan (she was a ticket-holder for over thirty years). Senior wishes presented Ethel with a Sabres sweatshirt to wear while cheering on her favorite team! Senior Wishes’ first wish was granted in March 2014, and since then the organization has been recognizing WNY’s seniors in increasing numbers with the support of community members and corporate sponsors.  Other wishes granted have included travel to…

Good Neighbors step up to help 9-year-old continue her mission!

Events, Good Neighbor, News
Get your running shoes out - we've got an amazing update on a story we told you about! There are many reasons to love Buffalo and WNY. No doubt the people top the list. People like Kim Kalman and Rhonda Diehl. The Grand Island ladies are pretty remarkable. They were called to action after they read our story about sweet 9-year-old Ella Wintringer and her amazing mission. (READ STORY)  Ella has been collecting medals to give to some of the sick children at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Unfortunately, Ella's all too familiar with the hospital - spending plenty of time there for her rare motility disorder. I shared the story on Facebook and tagged a few runners that I know. I figured they might have some medals around they could pass along…

Francesca’s Dad has a message for WNY

Francesca’s Dad has a message for WNY

Good Neighbor, News
We first told you about little Francesca just last week. (Read story) The 3-year-old was diagnosed with leukemia in mid-February. Her father, Dominic told us the plan was 29-days of intense chemotherapy in the hospital. And that was what was happening. Until something pretty remarkable happened. Francesca's father, Dominic Morabito asked me to pass along some news, "Here's a follow up for you, Francesca is home! The doctors were so confidant in the way she responded to the treatments that they felt confidant enough to let her finish her initial regiment of treatments at home." He went on to say how grateful he is, "I just can't thank everyone enough for the prayers and words of support and encouragement over the last week." Francesca still has a long road ahead,…

Rock Your Socks for the Buffalo Ronald McDonald House

Rock Your Socks for the Buffalo Ronald McDonald House

This is pretty cool. That is Mr. Pickles rocking his socks (picture courtesy: Sherry Burns) A wonderful campaign to bring awareness to a local charity that makes a big difference for many families in our community. First off all, if you're not exactly sure what The Ronald McDonald House is all about, let me fill you in a bit. The beautiful, comfortable house serves as a home-away-from-home for families who have sick children. That's it in a nutshell. Folks who have kids staying at Women and Children's Hospital or Roswell Park Cancer Institute can stay there while their child is in the hospital, or if their child needs to go to the hospital for treatment. If you've never needed the house, that's great. If you have, I know how grateful…

Local photographer’s stunning photos: “I so often would see what others don’t”

Good Neighbor, News
John Witt has loved photography for as long as he can remember. It's just one of those things... you just know. So, even as a child, he tinkered with cameras - and film. Oh, that old film. Eventually, John came around to the idea of digital cameras - and what he's come up with are some pretty amazing photographs. One of John's most well-known photos is a beautiful pre-sunrise shot of The Grand Island bridges. You can see it on the Town of Grand Island Website. John's love of water means plenty of stunning shots around the area waterways - which works out well because we all love to look at the water. It's so calming. He says he's lucky to be doing what he is doing, "I realized that I…
