As You Enjoy That Cold Air Conditioning Today – Remember It Was Invented By A Western New Yorker!

Spread the love

Yes, it’s hot!

Thankfully, we have air conditioning to keep us comfortable and cool!

Did you know that the air conditioner was invented by a Western New Yorker? It’s true!

His name is Willis Carrier and he was born November 26, 1876, in Angola, N.Y.  Yep, our Angola.

On July 17, 1902, Willis Haviland Carrier designed the first modern air-conditioning system, launching an industry that would fundamentally improve the way we live, work and play.

The  mechanical unit, which sent air through water-cooled coils, was not aimed at human comfort, however; it was designed to control humidity in the printing plant where Carrier worked.  Apparently, after graduating from Cornell University, while working at the Buffalo Forge Company, Carrier started experimenting with air conditioning to help solve a problem at a Publishing Company in Brooklyn.

The first air conditioner, designed and built in Buffalo by Carrier, began working on 17 July 1902.

So today – we say thank you to Willis Carrier from Angola, New York for inventing the air conditioner 107 years ago yesterday!!!
